Pope John Paul II Awards 2018

Five of the young people from St Mary's Cathedral received awards at the diocesan second annual John Paul II Award Ceremony recently. The ceremony was organised by Fr Dermott Donnelly and the YMT, and Bishop Seamus was a guest at the ceremony, which took place on Thursday 8th February at the Tyne Theatre.

Special guest speakers were Barry and Margaret Mizen, whose son Jimmy was killed in an unprovoked arrack in London 10 years ago. His parents at the time publicly forgave the people who took their son’s life and continue to visit schools and prisons to show the importance of forgiveness.
