Baseline
Baseline is an ecumenical social initiative in Newcastle City Centre, aimed at supporting young people find and maintain appropriate housing or similar accommodation. Other practical and emotional support services are offered, such as help with DIY and befriending. The Baseline offices are based at St James' United Reformed Church.

Blessed Gérard Care Centre & Hospice
The Blessed Gérard Care Centre and Hospice in Mandini [named after a founder-monk of the Order of Malta who cared for the poor, the sick and the dying during the Crusades] was built originally to care for people suffering from any terminal illness.  The Blessed Gérard Care Centre and Hospice is the Cathedral community's 2006 overseas aid project.

CAFOD (CAtholic Fund for Overseas Developement) is a major British charity that has been fighting third-world poverty since 1962 and is the official agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales for overseas aid. They believe that all human beings have a right to dignity and respect and the the world's resources are a gift to be shared by all, whatever their race, nationality or religion.

CAFOD works through the Church's organisations supporting over 1000 long-term, self-help development projects in 75 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe; projects such as health, education, food production and irrigation, AIDS education prevention and care. CAFOD also responds to emergencies worldwide, providing relief and rehabilitation assistance to people in need through Caritas, the network of Catholic relief agencies.

Cyrenians
The Tyneside Cyrenians have six projects providing short, medium and long term support and accommodation for people aged 18-80 who otherwise would be homeless. There is also a very busy 'drop-in' day centre which aims to help alleviate poverty by offering free food, showers and clothing to those who are either totally homeless or living in insecure accommodation on a lower income. In an agreement between Newcastle City Centre Churches and the Cyrenians, all callers to churches in the city centre for help are referred to this centre. The Cyrenians welcome donations of small tinned and packet foods to pass on to those who need it when times are hard. The Cyrenians are situated at Ron Eager House, 214 Westgate Road, Newcastle.

LIFE provides an important local function to women who find themselves pregnant but who lack emotional, practical or financial support in their family or surrounding environment. Free pregnancy tests are offered and counselling support is available throughout a pregnancy and before and after abortion. All services are confidential. The Newcastle Centre is based at 14A Great North Road and can be visited between 11am and 2pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Newcastle West End Refugee Service
This service is funded entirely by donations are cares for about 100 refugees in the west end of Newcastle. It is constantly inundated with requests for clothing: men's clothing includes t-shirts, jeans and sweat-shirts; children's clothes and kitchen equipment, particularly pots and pans, are always in short supply as are duvets, pillows and sheets.

The Samaritans
The Samaritans provide a confidential listening service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year throughout the UK for those in crisis or who may be feeling suicidal. The Tyneside branch is based at 15 Portland Terrace and is open for visits from 9am until 9pm. The Branch can also be reached by calling 08457 90 90 90.

Shelter provides anyone with a housing problem with help they need when they need it, via a free telephone helpline and a network of regional offices, including a local branch in Newcastle. Shelterline is available free of charge on 0808 800 4444.

St Cuthbert's Care
This is our Diocesan Charity which seeks to work with and offer services to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society. This support is offered in the spirit of Christian concern and in order to make real the ideal of a just and caring society. Their services include: residential units for children, support for parents of children with disabilities, independent living projects for adults, day and residential services for adults with learning disabilities and providing school social workers.
