The sacrament of Confirmation continues the initiation of the baptised
into the fullness of Christian life within the Church. Those who receive
Confirmation receive the grace responsibly to witness to Christ by word
and deed and to spread and defend the faith.
The third precept of the Church requires all eligible Catholics to
receive the sacrament of Confirmation with proper preparation and commitment.
Every baptised person who is not confirmed is capable of receiving Confirmation.
Apart from danger of death you should be properly prepared and should
renew your baptismal promises. The usual practice sets the age for confirmation
in a 12-16 year old bracket.
Confirmation preparations are held after Easter and involve a minimum
of four sessions with a catechist, in advance of the confirmation ceremony
around the time of Pentecost.
Anyone wishing to be confirmed should contact the Cathedral
Office during Lent in order for arrangements to be made.
