A sacristan's duties are to prepare and maintain all the items necessary for the celebration of the liturgy. This entails:

• care of vestments
• washing and ironing of altar linen
• polishing silver and brass
• maintaining altar server's cassocks and cottas
• preparation of the altar and sanctuary for the celebration of Mass
