The Cathedral offers to its congregation the opportunity to explore prayer and spirituality by offering occasional talks and introductory days of prayer throughout the year. Details are published in the newsletter. The Diocesan Bookshop also stocks a range of books on prayer and spirituality. Regular 'Days of Recollection' are held, in particular, for Readers and Eucharistic Ministers, to enable prayerful reflection on these important ministries.

The Cathedral is also linked to a number of prayer groups which follow a particular spiritual tradition. See also Centering Prayer Group and Christian Life Community. Individual spiritual direction and prayer guiding is also available by appointment.

Minsteracres Retreat Centre and Ushaw College provide local opportunities for members of the congregation to attend and experience prayer days, courses on spirituality and retreats.
