Requiescat in Pace: Rt Rev Hugh
Lindsay, Bishop Emeritus of Hexham and Newcastle
It was with great sadness that the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle announced
the sudden death of The Rt Rev Hugh Lindsay, Bishop Emeritus of Hexham and
Newcastle. He died on Monday afternoon, 19th January, 2009, at his home
in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne, at the age of 81.
Reception
Bishop Lindsay's body was received into St Mary's Cathedral on Sunday 1st
February at 6.30pm.
There was a celebration of Mass, followed by a vigil of quiet prayer ending
with Compline.
Requiem Mass
Bishop Lindsay's Reqiuem Mass was celebrated on Monday 2nd February at 12noon,
immediately followed by burial in the Cathedral Crypt.
