Sunday 30 November marked the beginning of Advent. To mark the occassion, Fr John Skivington blessed the Advent Wreath and lit the first candle.
The Advent Wreath consists of five candles: three purple, one rose and one white. Each week of Advent, a candle is lit until the fourth week when all but the white candle are ablaze. The colours correspond to the vestments worn by the priest on the Sundays of Advent. The Wreath is used to remind people to spiritually prepare for Christmas and that Jesus is the Light of the World. |
