On Saturday 11th July 2009 three married men were ordained to the Permanent
Diaconate by Bishop Séamus Cunningham. They were ordained in the presence
of their wives and families as well as friends from all over the Diocese.
Jurgen Muller, a hospital chaplain, from Darlington, Malcolm Jackson, Director
of an electrical company, from Gateshead, and Dan McKie, a retired policeman,
from Billingham have spent four years preparing for this special day. Fr
Michael Whalen, Director of Formation said that he was delighted as they
had worked very hard and were already doing great work in their communities
and that this confirms the presence of many gifts emerging for the good of
the whole community.
