Nigel Church Organ
After consultation with the Society of St Gregory, the organ advisory group,
Nigel Church of Nesbitt Hill, Stamfordham, was given the contract to build
the new organ. The Society had recommended that it be installed near to
the sacristy door for communication purposes but this was not done. Instead
it was installed on the opposite side of the church. Why this was done
is not known.
Numerous visitors come to the Cathedral to see and hear a Nigel Church organ,
since Mr Church no longer builds organs. However, many remark "the organ
is in the wrong place".
There are two manuals with a manual compass of 56 notes and a pedal compass
of 30 notes. It has a mechanical key, pedal and drawstop action. The casework
is made of Ash and it is 6.32m tall, 3.84m wide and 2m deep.
