At the moment, there are very few requested intentions for the weekday 8.00am & 12.05pm Masses and Saturday 10.00am Mass. If you would like to have a Mass offered for a deceased loved one or for a particular intention, please complete one of the Mass Intention envelopes at the back of church. Completed envelopes with donation included should never be left at the back of church but rather placed in the offertory baskets at Sunday Masses, handed directly to one of the priests or, during the week, handed in to the Cathedral Office. Sometimes there is more than one request for a particular date/time and in this case the Mass Intention will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis. Requiem Masses and other special occasions may also have to take precedence over particular requests.

St. Mary's Walking Group

Over the next twelve months, we plan to walk 'The Reivers Way', an 'unofficial' long-distance trail, wandering some 150 miles round the county of Northumberland, from Corbridge in the Tyne Valley to Alnmouth on the coast. We have divided it into short sections, the first of which begins next Sunday, Dec 5. Everyone is welcome. As it is a linear walk, we need to organise cars, so we shall meet at Whitley Chapel at 10.00am for a prompt start. To get there take the Blanchland road out of Corbridge. About 4.5 miles along the road turn RIGHT, signposted Whitley Chapel.

The Gift Aid envelopes for the Financial Year 2010/11 will be available for collection from the back of church next Sunday 28th March. Using Gift Aid means that for every GBP1 you give the Cathedral receives 28 pence from the Inland Revenue – and it doesn’t cost you a thing! If you pay UK tax and you are not already in the Gift Aid scheme, please consider joining (either by weekly envelopes or a bank standing order) as this greatly benefits the Cathedral's income. Envelopes are also available for those who do not pay tax but who wish to make a regular contribution. If you would like to join the Gift Aid scheme or would like further information on financial contributions to the Cathedral, please contact the Cathedral Office - office@stmaryscathedral.org.uk.

Over the past eight years, Anne has shown great dedication and given generously of her time but she has now decided the time is right to retire from this role. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for all her hard work on behalf of the Cathedral. Anne has been succeeded as our representative by Tom Millen to whom we are very grateful for taking up the mantle and we wish him well in this important ecumenical role.

Important Parish Meeting

Bishop Cunningham has invited all parishes in the deanery to hold a meeting to discuss the future deployment of priests and the organisation of parishes within the deanery. Realistically, in years to come (and sooner than we might think) there are going to be fewer priests available to serve in our parishes, so we need to consider now the implications of this. The meeting will be an opportunity to consider some or all of the following:

The consequences of having fewer priests:
(i) Fewer Masses - how many Masses do we really need in our parish?
(ii) Twinning/clustering / amalgamating parishes?

How to develop and encourage vibrant parishes with or without a resident
          priest.

The training of lay people for leadership and ministries in parishes.

The financial and practical administration of parishes.

Our meeting will be held jointly with St Andrew's, Worswick Street on Wednesday
4th November at 7.00pm in the Cloister Cafe and all parishioners are
        welcome to attend.
